“This book was a joy to read. From wise guidance and advice, to sincere themes of
family, faith and community all of which are very important pillars of Greek culture.
Dr. Frank Karantonis champions the importance of these values and represents them
through his work in the Greek community of Toronto and beyond, which comes
through in his lived experience showcased in this fantastic read.”
-Marissa Papaconstantinou: Two Time Paralympian, medalist, motivational speaker and advocate
“Foti Karantonis is one of those people who doesn’t just muddle through his life; he
reflects deeply on it through the lens of a vibrant faith, learns from it — and then writes
about it. He is one of the most positive and ardent people I have had the privilege of
knowing. Reading this book is like sitting down and having a chat with him, and letting
him share what he has learned from his successes and not-so-successes in life.”
—Dr. Joe Gibes, Family Physician Attending, and Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine
“Dr. Frank Karantonis is a citizen of the world. He delves into his personal experi-
ences to offer insights into the values crucial for building healthy relationships in an
ever-changing society. Dr. Karantonis provides a unique perspective on these values,
drawing from his roots in Greek-Canadian culture and religious faith, as well as his
fandom of Toronto Raptors and Toronto FC. The aim of his book is to offer read-
ers a better understanding of these values, particularly from an ethical and spiritual
viewpoint. This book is a source of inspiration, emphasizing faith, compassion and
passion, and can be viewed as a compass for navigating one’s way through life.”
—Georges Essè, Elementary School French Teacher
“Dr. Frank Karantonis, who is not only a medical doctor but holds a degree in
philosophy, has imbued these tales of his life, faith, and community with a bedside
manner that is compassionate, instructive, and at times wildly entertaining. A tonic for
the soul and a heartfelt compendium of sage advice, Family and Community: Building
Healthy Relationships, is like a two-week vacation on a Greek island – fun, sunny, and
most of all, restorative. The best doctor-written book you are likely to read this year.”
—Scott Mackay, Award-Winning Author of the Dr. Deacon Mystery Series
